Blowout near Adamsville sends pickup, trailer off U.S. 281

PHOTO BY LEE SMITH A 2000 Ford F Series pickup with a camping trailer in tow left the roadway and rolled one- half time just north of U.S. Highway 281 and County Road 2806.
A tire blowout on U.S. Highway 281 2.5 miles south of Adamsville last week caused a pickup pulling a recreational trailer to roll over. The driver and a passenger apparently escaped serious injury, officials said.

Trooper II Michael Tatum of the Texas Highway Patrol gave the following account of the accident, which occurred Aug. 19 just before 3:15 p.m. The accident occurred just north of the intersection of U.S. 281 and County Road 2806.

Tommie Frank Stuart of Dripping Springs was southbound on U.S. 281 in a 2000 Ford F Series pickup, pulling a 2007 camping trailer.

The right front tire on the Ford pickup blew out, which caused the driver to lose control. The pickup and trailer drifted off the roadway to the right into the southbound bar ditch.

Both units traveled up an embankment and rolled a half time. The right front of the Ford collided with a livestock fence, damaging 100 feet of the fence. The pickup and trailer came to rest on their tops facing west.

Stuart sustained non-incapacitating injuries, and Ann E. Stuart, a front right passenger in the Ford pickup, was uninjured.
