Swearing in for the 117th Congress was held on Jan. 3. Although Republicans picked up some seats in the U.S. House after the Nov. 3 general elections, they remain in the minority (222-211). U.S. Rep. Roger Williams was elected to his fifth term in Congress.

TxDOT crews pretreat highways before winter weather

The Texas Department of Transportation’s Brownwood District worked earlier this week to prepare and stage equipment, and treat major state-maintained roadways and structures in anticipation of the strong winter storms that moved through the area Wednesday and Thursday.

LCRA offering new round of grants for community projects

The Lower Colorado River Authority is offering grants of up to $50,000 for community projects throughout LCRA’s wholesale power, water and transmission service territory. Applications for the next round of Community Development Partnership Program grants must be submitted by midnight on Jan. 31.
