Wildfire preparedness workshop planned for Sept. 21

Lampasas County residents interested in learning how to protect themselves and their property from wildfire are invited to a Wildfire Preparedness Workshop on Sept. 21. The meeting is scheduled from 6-8 p.m. at the Lampasas County Farm Bureau Building, 1793 U.S. Highway 281 North.

Sometimes, career paths can be a tough choice. As a college freshman in 2010, Crystal Elder Eschbach had no idea what her future would hold. Fast-forward to today, and Eschbach can be found working alongside her father, Jay Elder, as a dentist at Sulphur Springs Dental in Lampasas.

Local author publishes children’s book on Texas wildlife

While Lampasas resident Courtney Rubalcaba was working in early childhood education for eight years, she noticed a need for good children’s books. She decided to write one herself. At the end of July, Rubalcaba published a book on Texas wildlife called “Walking through Texas.”

Get ready to experience an unforgettable evening of Western heritage and music, as the Lampasas County Museum presents an exclusive performance Sept. 16 by renowned Texas musician Gary P. Nunn. The event, which will be held at 303 S. Western Ave., is being called Western Night on Western.

The 12th Annual Lampasas County Wine Tour is set for Sept. 23. The Lampasas County Chamber of Commercesponsored event this year will feature beer and spirits, in addition to the wine offerings from area vineyards. Tickets are $110 per person.

Against the odds: Hereford cow delivers healthy triplets

James and Mayela Banks had quite an unexpected blessing last week when their Hereford cow, whom Banks calls White Face, gave birth to triplets.
This 1955 Chevy, owned by Bill Henderson, is expected to be present for the Classics at the Classic Car Show. Henderson bought the car when he was 13 and obtained his license at age 14 the following June. He has had the vehicle ever since. COURTESY PHOTO

Classic vehicles to be on display Sept. 9 at annual show

The engines are set to roar once again, as the 15th annual Classics at the Classic Car Show returns to Lampasas on Sept. 9. Reviving the spirit of vintage automobiles, this event will revolve around the theme “Birds With No Feathers.”

Every town has a beginning, something about it that made people first settle and then continue to settle in a place. Just as families have a heritage, so do towns. Based on the community history, if Lampasas were described as a person, that person would be strong, resilient, tenacious and grounded.
