Badger basketball goes 2-2 at home tournament

The Lampasas boys’ basketball team played in its final tournament of the season which was hosted here at the high school and appropriately named “Holiday at the Creek.”

Over the course of last weekend, the Badgers went 2-2 with wins over Canyon Lake and Henrietta on Thursday. Then they lost a tough game to Brock on Friday night and suffered another loss to Copperas Cove on Saturday.

In the wins, the Badgers beat Canyon Lake 60-40 and then beat Henrietta 60-56 in a contest where they had to protect the lead at the end.

In the game with Canyon Lake, four different Badgers scored in double figures. Calum Mitchell led the way with 13 points. Dylan Polmanteer and Peyton Sisson both scored 12 points, and Beau Patterson finished with 10 points.

Against Henrietta, Patterson was dominant as he scored 26 points to lead Lampasas to victory. Peyton Sisson scored 14 points to join him in double figures.

In the game against Brock, the Badgers lost 66-50.

They started well and led 17-9 after the first quarter, but Brock dominated the second quarter 19-6 and took the lead into the half.

The Badgers were not able to fully cut into the lead, and Brock separated further as the game continued.

Patterson once again led the team in scoring with 15 points. Polmanteer and Aidan Nuckles scored 10 points each.

In the final game against Copperas Cove, the Badgers lost 67-55.

Patterson scored 23 to lead the way, and Polmanteer scored 11 points to join him in double figures.

Patterson and Nuckles were named to the All-Tournament team for their performances.

After the tournament, the Badgers are 15-6 this season. They have just two more non-district contests left against Georgetown and Cedar Park.

The Badgers played in one more game before the Christmas break at Georgetown on Monday, but those results were not available prior to the press deadline.

For the Lampasas junior varsity teams at the tournament, they each went 1-1 on the first day. JV White beat Burnet 36-35 and lost to Copperas Cove 68-25. JV Blue beat Wimberley 60-49 and lost to Burnet 50-35.

On the second day of the tournament, JV Blue played one more game against Waco High and came just short at 62-59.

The next time the Badgers take the court will be against Cedar Park on the road Dec. 30. The subvarsity games are scheduled for 1 p.m., with the varsity to follow around 2:30 p.m.
