William Robert “Bill” Archie, 81, died on March 6, 2024.
Memorial services will be held at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Lampasas on June 1 at 11 a.m., with interment of his urn to follow at Rock Church Cemetery in Rumley.
Bill was born Dec. 21, 1942, to Kyle Archie and Lounell Jones Archie in San Angelo. He grew up in Hico and enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps after graduating from high school.
After his distinguished service in the Marine Corps, Bill’s insatiable thirst for knowledge led him to Tarleton State University. There, he earned both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in education.
During his time at Tarleton, Bill’s life was changed forever when he met and immediately loved Sharon Ports. They were married in June 1968. Their love story spanned over half a century, filled with joy, laughter and shared adventures, until Sharon’s death.
In 1974, Bill and his family moved to Lampasas, where Bill taught fourth grade at West Oaks Elementary for over 30 years.
Bill was a member of Saratoga Masonic Lodge #546, where he achieved many high honors. He served his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ as a member of First Baptist Church and later worshipped at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church.
Through the years, he participated in the community theatre, supported the Badger Band and enjoyed working as a greeter at Walmart. Above all, Bill loved being a father and grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Ellah Archie, and his wife, Sharon.
He is survived by his son, Andrew Archie, and wife Karen of Aurora, Colorado; grandchildren Karman, Ethan and Elijah Archie; daughter, Lou Archie, and wife Anita Olinga of Charleston, Virginia; and sisters Rebekah Ballard of Greenville, Texas and Donita Hoffpauir of Denton.
