Services held for Daniel Hodges

Longtime pharmacist and former business owner Daniel Dotson Hodges, 71, died on Oct. 3, 2024, in Lampasas after a brief illness.

The memorial service for Hodges was held Oct. 7 at 11 a.m. at First Street Church of Christ, with burial at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lampasas. Heritage Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Hodges was born Nov. 10, 1952 in Lampasas to John Mitchell Hodges and Lottie (Schick) Hodges.

He graduated in the Lampasas High School Class of 1971, then attended The University of Texas at Austin, where he graduated in 1976 with honors from the School of Pharmacy.

Hodges married his high school sweetheart, Dianna Wear, at First Street Church of Christ on May 30, 1975.

He partnered with Jim Sargent to buy the former Terry’s Pharmacy, and the business partners operated Hodges & Sargent Pharmacy from Sept. 1, 1980 until retiring in May 2013.

Hodges remained involved in community activities. He was a longtime member of the Lampasas Lions Club and was presented the “Community Builder Award” in 1999 by the Masonic Grand Lodge of Texas. He had served on the Cooper Spring Nature Park Foundation board since its inception in 2014, and was a member of Vision Lampasas. Hodges also was a member of First Street Church of Christ, where he served as a deacon and on the Benevolence Committee.

A member of the Williamson County Audubon Society and Texas Ornithological Society where he served as president, Hodges was a serious birdwatcher and often submitted his research to Cornell University. He and his wife traveled the world in pursuit of birds to add to his life list.

Hodges also was a passionate baseball fan, attending games around the country and collecting memorabilia.

He is survived by his wife, Dianna, of Lampasas; daughters Annah Hodges of San Marcos and Karen Limmer (Andrew) of Anchorage, Alaska; brother, John E. Hodges (Shanea Davis) of Austin: sisters Lucia Hodges of Pflugerville, Christine Hodges of Round Rock and Rebecca Hodges Turner (Tom) of Newcastle, Washington; grandchildren Isabella Tess Lopez, Olivia Lottie Lopez, Henry Hodges Limmer and William Daniel Limmer; and numerous inlaws, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Memorials may be made to the Cooper Spring Nature Park Foundation or the First Street Church of Christ Benevolence Ministry.
