Mr. Haynie

Walter Y. Haynie, 86, of Georgetown and formerly of Lampasas, died on Aug. 13, 2022. Services will be held at Sneed-Carnley Funeral Chapel in Lampasas on Aug. 19 at 10 a.m., with visitation an hour prior. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Walter was born on July 8, 1936, in Lampasas to Walter W. and Ruth Haynie. He was raised in Lampasas and graduated from Lampasas High School, where he was a star football player. After high school, he attended the University of Texas in Austin for a year before moving to McGregor to work. In McGregor, he met Carolyn Fisk, and soon after they married. They moved to Lampasas, where they raised their family, and Walter ran a business called Haynie Wholesale for 26 years.

Walter was very involved in the Lampasas community. He was a member of the Badger Booster Club and served on the Spring Ho Committee for several years. He was an avid golfer and could be found on the Hancock Park Golf Course regularly. He also was a member of First Street Church of Christ for many years.

Walter is survived by his wife of 66 years, Carolyn Haynie; sons Barry Haynie and wife Lisa, and Bryan Haynie and wife Vickie; daughters Cara Haynie and Carla Shaffer; grandchildren Jennifer Dunford, Jordan Haynie, Taylor Haynie, Sarah Haynie, Alex Pena, Roman Brown and Reilley Shaffer; and great-grandchildren Annabelle, Bennett, Amelia, Michael and Isabella.
