The American Legion Briggs Wright Post No. 277 and its auxiliary unit have named this year’s Lampasas High School representatives for the 2026 American Legion Auxiliary Bluebonnet Girls State and American Legion Boys State programs.
The following juniors were nominated by teachers and administrators for Girls State: Chloe Branum, daughter of Paula Branum and Shane Branum; Payton Crawford, daughter of Randy and DeeAnn Crawford; Emma Norton, daughter of Melissa Brown and Daniel Norton; Jennifer Posten, daughter of Pamela and Jamie Posten; and Kenzie Stone, daughter of Gena Stone and David Stone.
The purpose of Girls State is to educate young women in the duties, privileges, rights and responsibilities of citizenship. Through a “learn-by-doing” model, participants create and operate a mythical 51st state, taking on real roles in city, county and state government. They form political parties, hold legislative sessions, debate bills and vote on legislation.
The 2026 Girls State students are sponsored by Amtex Enterprises, First Texas Bank, Lampasas Kiwanis Club, Randle and Diana Jackson, Briggs Wright Post 277 (American Legion), and American Legion Auxiliary Unit 277.
The 2026 Bluebonnet Girls State session will be held June 14-20 at Texas Lutheran University in Seguin.
Chosen to represent LHS at the 2026 American Legion Boys State session are these juniors: Austin Barber, son of Joni Barber and Tim Barber; Grant Gill, son of Rachel and Rudy Gill; Brody Hilgenberg, son of Wayne Hilgenberg and Kelly Hilgenberg; Cayhil Isom, son of Kelli and Trampus Isom; and Noah Stokley, son of Jessica Stokley.
Boys State gives participants a hands-on introduction to the political process and emphasizes patriotism, leadership and civic responsibility. Students develop friendships with peers from across Texas, practice civil discourse and debate, learn how to build consensus and gain a working knowledge of the two-party political system.
The 2026 Boys State students are sponsored by First Texas Bank, Guyco, Judge Randy Hoyer, Isom Veterinary Hospital, Lampasas Kiwanis Club and the Briggs Wright Post No. 277.
The 2026 Boys State session is scheduled for June 7-12 at The University of Texas in Austin.
Participants in both programs typically are strong academically and demonstrate excellent leadership, interpersonal and oratorical skills.
