Gary Thomas Clark, a dedicated law enforcement officer and family man, died on April 8, 2026, in Lampasas.
Born on May 6, 1959, in Fort Riley, Kansas, Gary’s life was marked by professional devotion, personal achievements and treasured memories that reflected both his character and commitment.
Gary devoted 32 years to the Killeen Police Department, culminating in his retirement as a police lieutenant in January 2012. His tenure was marked by a dedication to duty and an aptitude for leadership. For a decade, Gary worked within the department’s personnel and training section, where he played a crucial role in instructing new recruits in firearm proficiency and scenario-based training.
His passion for shooting extended beyond the professional realm; he was an avid collector of American firearms, favoring models from the 1970s and 1980s, including Smith and Wesson, Colt, Ruger, Marlin and Winchester. Gary found particular satisfaction in training recruits to manage challenging scenarios involving volunteer teenager participants.
Gary’s early years included attending school in Thailand during the sixth and seventh grades.
Among Gary’s most important personal accomplishments was his marriage to Sally Clark. Together, they celebrated the birth of their son, Russ, whose arrival Gary regarded as a profound source of love and inspiration.
Gary supported Russ in achieving his Eagle Scout rank, taking particular pride in assisting with the Eagle Project: planting flowers and constructing picnic tables at the old middle school. Gary also assisted with other community contributions, notably the building of the CAPS Spring Ho float even as his physical strength waned over time.
Gary is survived by his wife, Sally Clark; his son, Russ Clark; his mother, Kay Clark; his sister, Kathy Clark-Jones; and his brother, Mark Clark.
He was preceded in death by his father, Bobby Clark.
A graveside service will be held April 14 at 2 p.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lampasas. Sneed-Carnley Funeral Chapel has charge of arrangements.
