Lampasas County Museum will hold a reception and book-signing event Feb. 15 for author Mary Helen Dodson, who is publishing “The Architecture of Wesley Clark Dodson” in February.
She is the great-granddaughter of W.C. Dodson, the architect who designed the Lampasas County Courthouse – one of the oldest in Texas still in use as a courthouse.
The event will include a slide presentation by Ms. Dodson at the Lampasas County Courthouse at 2 p.m. in the upstairs district courtroom, with tours of the courthouse and books available for sale.
The author will sign copies of her book that day, and sales will benefit the local museum in part.
Mary Helen Dodson is an American historian and writer. Her working career was spent at Educational Testing Service in Princeton, New Jersey, where she developed exams for students in Advanced Placement courses. She also assisted with new product development and received a U.S. patent for her work on an online essay evaluation service that utilized technology for distance learning.
After retiring, she began to pursue her interest in genealogy and her family’s past. What Dodson learned about her greatgrandfather convinced her that his story was worth telling.
She will offer a presentation on W.C. Dodson, his life and his architectural career, particularly his work in designing and building courthouses, including Lampasas’ historic building.
Lampasas County Museum will host a small, related exhibition at its 303 S. Western Ave. site and will have refreshments available after the presentation at the courthouse. All is free and open to the public.
