Carol of Lights ready to bring tidings of joy to area residents

Christmas cheer will ring throughout the downtown square for the annual Carol of Lights celebration, set for Dec. 6.

Previously, the event was sponsored by Vision Lampasas, but the torch has been passed to the Lampasas Downtown Association, formerly known as the Courtyard Square Association.

The day of Christmasthemed events will begin with the Lampasas County Farmers Market and Crafts at 9 a.m. After enjoying sweet treats or finding new knick-knacks to purchase, attendees may view vintage automobiles on the south side of the courthouse square. The Classics at the Classic car show will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Food trucks such as Aloha Lampasas, which specializes in Hawaiian food, and the Knights of Columbus will have their concessions on the square from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m.

From noon to 5 p.m., Christmas music from DJ Marty will resound, and vendors around the square will have Christmasthemed activities catered toward children.

Throughout the day, Carol of Lights visitors may stop by the Lampasas County Museum to view special-themed Christmas trees and the gingerbread house contest entries. The museum also will have baked goods for sale.

Visitors from the North Pole will be in town that day, too. Santa Claus will be at Ajinomoto Foods from 3:30-6 p.m., while Mrs. Claus will read books to youngsters at the Lampasas Public Library from 5-6 p.m.

The Snow Queen pageant will begin at 1 p.m. on the bandstand, followed by Christmas carols provided by local elementary school students at 4:30 p.m.

The event’s official lighting ceremony will take place at the courthouse bandstand at 6 p.m.

Activities will conclude with the Holidazzle Lighted Christmas Parade at 6:30 p.m. The parade is the only Carol of Lights event still led by Vision Lampasas.
