Sally Ruth Nuckles, 88, died at San Gabriel Rehabilitation and Care Center in Round Rock on July 27, 2024.
She was a loving wife, a dedicated mother, a doting grandmother and a friend to many.
Sally was born Sept. 30, 1935, the only child of Walter E. McDermott and Ruth (Bain) McDermott, in Newton, Massachusetts.
Upon completing high school in Newton, she attended Regis College (for women), graduating in 1957 with a degree in education and sociology.
She began teaching underprivileged children and after teaching third grade for two years, she moved to Las Cruces, New Mexico. There she met her husband to be, James “Jim” Nuckles while he was serving in the United States Air Force.
Sally and Jim were married on July 4, 1961. The first of their two sons, Michael, was born in 1962, and their second son, Martin, was born in 1966. In 1970, the family moved to Austin, Texas. Sally lived there for many years until illness necessitated her move to Round Rock.
Sally was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 62 years, Capt. James F. Nuckles; and her son Martin M. Nuckles.
She is survived by her son Michael and granddaughters Courtney, Megan and Kellie Nuckles, of Green Bay, Wisconsin; sisterin- law Mary Casbeer and brother-in-law W. A. Nuckles of Lampasas, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held Aug. 5 at 5 p.m., with rosary at 7 p.m. at Austin Peel & Son Funeral Home in Austin.
The funeral service will be held Aug. 6 at 10 a.m., also at Austin Peel & Son Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Smith Cemetery at School Creek in Lampasas at 12:30 p.m.
