Jacen Dean “J.D.” Moore

Jacen Dean “J.D.” Moore, 89, died on July 2, 2024, at Lampasas Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Private graveside services will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery. Sneed-Carnley Funeral Chapel has charge of arrangements.

J.D. was born on Oct. 29, 1934, in a “dugout” near Brownfield to Roy “Red” Moore and Myrtle Moore. Growing up in West Texas during the Great Depression was hard, but J.D. never let his circumstances slow him down.

With love and attention from his mother and especially his grandfather, Pa Lon, J.D. learned how to run a successful oil supply business, how to treat people fairly, how a man kept his promise with a handshake, and how to respect and treat the land. Growing up in that environment cultivated his love of people, Texas history, guns and trucks.

J.D. also was storyteller. One story involved the Blocker family who ran a grocery store near the Moores’ home. J.D. grew up with Dan Blocker, who later landed the role as Hoss in the popular television series “Bonanza.”

After a short stint in the Army, J.D. started his career on drilling rigs in West Texas which took him worldwide including Latin America and the Middle East as a drilling supervisor.

His final job before retiring was with Lufkin Industries in Longview, where he met his wife, Eva Lynne (Jones) Dvorack. J.D. helped raise Lynne’s three daughters, Debbie, DeeAnna and Denyse.

After several years in Longview, Lynne and J.D. moved to Lampasas to take care of Lynne’s mother, Eva Drake Jones.

Some of his fondest memories in Lampasas were RV-ing and 4-wheeling with neighbors and friends. But the thing he missed most after his eyesight and health declined was sitting on the back porch with his wife watching the sunset and all the wildlife.

J.D. was a member of the Masons of Texas and was proud of its purpose “to take good men and help them to become better men.”

J.D. was preceded in death by his stepdaughter, Debbie Lisenbee.

He is survived by his spouse, Eva Lynne of Lampasas; stepdaughters DeeAnna Prichard of Arlington, Texas, and Denyse Dvorack of Las Vegas, Nevada; and grandchildren Dakota Lisenbee of Florida and Daniel Dvorack of Las Vegas.

Memorials may be made to the Texas Masonic Charities Foundation (https://txmct.org/) or a charity of one’s choice.
