Flood watch in effect until Friday morning

Many low water crossings impassible, authorities said

A flood watch has been issued for Lampasas County due to Thursday rains.
The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for Lampasas, Hamilton, Coryell, Bell and surrounding counties. Thursday afternoon storms are expected to produce between 1.5 and 3.5 inches of rainfall with isolated incidents of 5 inches possible.

As of 4:11 p.m., the Kempner Volunteer Fire Department reported that sections of County Road 3340 are under water. At 3 p.m., the low water crossing on County Road 3300 was submerged by swift moving water.

At 5 p.m., Lampasas County Sheriff's Office dispatchers reported that most of the low water crossings in Precinct 3 are impassible.

“Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Flooding may occur in poor-drainage and urban areas. Low-water crossings may become flooded,” NWS officials said.
The warning will remain in effect until Friday morning. A severe thunderstorm watch is also in effect.
According to a hazardous weather outlook also issued on Thursday, “heavy rain and flooding will be the primary threat with these storms. A severe storm or two with gusty winds and quarter sized hail may also occur.”
