Hostess House plans hit roadblock; council to seek new bids

An additional $38,000 for Hostess House design plans did not sit well with Lampasas City Council members at their July 24 meeting. So far, the city has paid Reliance Architecture $93,562.50 of the original $130,570 agreement for plans to bring the historic building up to code.

High heat, gusty winds lead to Sunday fire

Update: Texas A&M Forest Service data shows the Lucy Creek fire is 75% contained as of Monday at 8:41 p.m. Another fire reported northwest of Lometa in the area of County Road 2535 and CR 2509 was listed at 78 acres and 75% contained as of 9:32 p.m.

Lampasas ISD staff members enjoy an ice-cream social offered during Monday’s professional development activities. Instructional staff have been on campus preparing for the start of classes.

Funding available to repair septic systems in Lampasas watershed

The Lampasas River Watershed Partnership is coordinating a septic system repair and replacement program for residents in the Lampasas River watershed to help improve and protect water quality. Residents of the watershed may be eligible for up to $8,000 to repair or replace failing systems.

Retired ag teacher continues mentorship

Dr. Steve Forsythe participated in the 2023 Professional Development Conference of the Agricultural Teachers Association of Texas. The association met July 24-28 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Dallas, where more than 1,400 agriscience teachers and guests were in attendance.

Water donation for the homebound

Hill Country Community Action Association donated bottled water to all local Meals on Wheels homebound clients during the recent water emergency. The city of Lampasas also donated cases of water for those clients.

Lampasas man appeals sentence

A Lampasas man will appeal a life sentence after pleading guilty to the murder of a Burnet County man and woman in 2021. James Joseph Luckenbach, 35, entered a guilty plea in May to the murder of a Horseshoe Bay couple and issued a notice of appeal in late June. On Aug.
