Fishing and swimming events scheduled by Parks and Recreation

Starting early next month, the city of Lampasas Parks and Recreation Department has some events scheduled to get youth and members of the community enjoying the outdoors as summer gets going.First, the city will host a Kid Fish Day that actually will take place over two days at W.M. Brook Park.

Lometa school board trustees sworn in

Lometa ISD’s Board of Trustees met last week to handle mostly procedural items as the district approaches the end of another school year.A highlight of the meeting was the swearing-in of board members who were elected May 2, though no changes were made to officer positions on the board.

Commencement exercises took place Friday night at Badger Stadium, where graduates in the Lampasas High School Class of 2026 walked the stage and received their diplomas to the applause of a packed audience of onlookers. For more photos from graduation, see page 3 inside.

Another election on the horizon?

Early voting in the Republican Party Primary and Democratic Party Primary runoff elections runs May 18-22 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Lampasas County Elections Office, 407 S. Pecan St.Election day is May 26.

Museum sustains water damage

Suzanne Butts uses a blow dryer on a taxidermy animal exhibit from the Lampasas County Museum’s popular wildlife display. A severe thunderstorm Sunday night caused water to pour into the museum and damage much of the front section of the building.

School board member Sam Walker has proposed retaining the “H”-shaped building configuration shown at top left, but moving the structure to the south side of the school property to connect with Bozarth-Fowler Gymnasium. School board considers new layout for LMS campus building

The Lampasas Independent School District Board of Trustees believes a new Lampasas Middle School building may have a home behind the Bozarth-Fowler Gym. This comes after voters authorized $115.55 million in bonds May 2 to fund the new campus construction.

Council proposes changes to ordinance for smoke shops

On Monday, the Lampasas City Council once again discussed zoning for smoke shops inside the city limits. This time, the council moved in a direction that makes it much harder for a proposed smoke shop to be allowed in Lampasas.
