AdventHealth to offer free health screenings

In honor of February’s designation as Heart Month, AdventHealth Central Texas will hold a free community health screening event aimed at promoting heart health and wellness.The Heart-to-Heart event will be Feb. 13 from 4:30-7 p.m. at Killeen Seventh Day Adventist Church, 4700 E. Rancier Ave.

AARP Foundation Tax-Aide will conduct free federal tax preparation services for the 2024 tax year on Tuesdays only from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 4 through April 15 at 302 E. Third St. in Lampasas (the Jack Calvert Municipal Building).

Vehicle pursuit ends in fatal crash

A Colorado teen lost his life after a vehicle pursuit on Sunday afternoon.This marks the second fatal accident within Lampasas city limits within two weeks, with the previous fatality a bicyclist who was struck by a vehicle Jan. 16.

New state park on the horizon

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission approved the acquisition of 1,100 acres in Lampasas and Burnet counties for a new state park during Thursday’s first regular meeting of 2025.TPW Infrastructure Division Director Andrea Lofye provided commission members with an overview of the project.

Commissioner Hill notes upcoming projects for Precinct 3

Precinct 3 Commissioner Shad Hill of Lometa is still settling into his new role one month after he assumed office.Hill worked for four years as a road hand in Precinct 2 before his win in the Republican Primary last March against Lewis Bridges earned him the county commissioner seat.

The more Taylor Creek Elementary School students read, the more likely they are to get a pizza party.For the second half of the school year, Taylor Creek has refreshed its accelerated reading program to include pizza parties for grade levels that reach 75% of their total word count goal.
