West Texas dust fills the air

Winds reported at 50-60 mph Tuesday afternoon carried dust into Lampasas from the West Texas area, giving the air a brownish tint and blowing over trees and outdoor items with its intensity. Power outages in the area also were attributed to the strong windstorm.

Tuesday house fire results in fatality

A structure fire on County Road 4804 in Kempner city limits led to the death of a 71-year-old female and the complete loss of a home on Tuesday afternoon. The State Fire Marshal’s Office is handling the investigation into the cause of the fire.

Interesting cloud pattern fills the evening sky

Mills County solar farm possible near Colorado River

Mills County resident Paul Kamas has concerns about a solar farm proposed for development near the Colorado River. Corix Utilities-Texas, which operates the Lometa Regional Water System, receives water from the Colorado River to supply area customers.

Forest Service: Prepare for wildfires, as threat remains

As wildfire potential continues across Texas, officials recommend preparation and keeping prevention in mind.“Dry conditions will persist into the weekend, continuing this week’s risk for wildfires,” said Jared Karns, Texas A&M Forest Service fire chief.

Since 1953, the Hill Country 100 Club has been supporting the first responders of this region. The organization’s goal is to be at the point of need within 24-48 hours of an incident to support the families of law enforcement personnel, firefighters and EMS when disaster strikes.

Father-Daughter Dance planned for March 22

“Be Our Guest” is the theme for a Father-Daughter Dance at Lampasas Methodist Church on March 22 from 6-10 p.m. The church is at 2 Alexander Lane.The event is a fundraiser for Scout Troop 200/400.Tickets are $20 per couple, plus $10 each for additional daughters.
