The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for Lampasas County due to thunderstorms forecast for this afternoon.
Issued at 3:21 a.m. this morning for Lampasas, Bell, Coryell, Hamilton and surrounding counties, the outlook states that thunderstorm activity could begin for this area late tonight.
“Isolated thunderstorms are possible today across North Texas with more widespread thunderstorms expected tonight across much of the area,” the outlook stated. “The severe threat is low, but a few storms may be able to produce small to marginally severe hail and heavy rain.”
NWS meteorologists forecast showers and thunderstorms likely before 9 p.m., then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm between 9 p.m. and 3 a.m., then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 3 a.m. with wind gusts of up to 20 mph possible. The chance of precipitation is 70%, and rainfall amounts between three quarters and one inch are possible.
According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the chance of tornadic activity for the region is under two percent, and the chance of damaging winds is under five percent. The possibility of hail rests right at five percent, officials said.
NWS meteorologists predict chances of storm activity will drop to 20 percent on Friday morning but will rise again over the weekend.
“Thunderstorm chances return late Saturday afternoon into Saturday evening. A conditional severe weather threat could materialize during this time,” officials said.
