A Lampasas Middle School student was flown by helicopter to a nearby hospital after being struck by an automobile along South Key Avenue Tuesday afternoon.
The incident remains under investigation by the Lampasas Police Department, according to Patrol Lt. Chuck Montgomery.
Montgomery said the police department responded to a call at 3:32 p.m. Tuesday for a vehicle-pedestrian collision that occurred on South Key in front of Cadence Bank.
According to the department’s preliminary investigation, a 14-year-old juvenile attempted to cross from the west side to the east side of Key Avenue. A 21-year-old male driver in a white 2017 Ford Fusion traveling northbound in the right lane collided with the juvenile who was walking across the street.
Montgomery said injuries to the 14-year-old at the crash scene were described as “very concerning.” The student was transported by Air Evac to Baylor Scott & White McLane Children’s Medical Center in Temple.
Montgomery said he has since learned the juvenile’s injuries would be classified as “non-incapacitating injuries.”
Agencies on the scene included the Lampasas Police Department, Lampasas Fire Department, Lampasas County Sheriff’s Office, Hamilton EMS and the Texas Department of Public Safety.
