School choice bill passes Senate, heads to Texas House
LEGISLATIVE UPDATE
School choice -- and setting up Education Savings Accounts -- is a priority issue for the 89th Texas Legislature. State Rep. David Spiller, whose District 68 includes Lampasas County, will be in Lampasas on Tuesday to discuss this and other potential legislation for the Texas House and Senate. FILE PHOTO
Texas House members will decide the fate of Senate Bill 2 that would establish Education Savings Accounts, better known as school choice legislation.
On Feb. 5, the Texas Senate passed SB 2 by a 1912 vote.
While lawmakers focus on the ESAs, school district officials like those in Lampasas ISD hope to see more done for public school teachers and students.
