Police seize over 200 grams of meth during traffic stop

A San Saba man faces a first-degree felony charge after Lampasas police found more than 200 grams of methamphetamine during a traffic stop April 27.

Joey Huizar, 46, was arrested on a charge of the manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance, penalty group 1, greater than or equal to 200 grams and less than 400 grams.

The traffic stop occurred in the 1100 block of East Avenue H at about 3:30 p.m.

Lampasas Police Department Patrol Lt.

Chuck Montgomery told the Dispatch Record the agency was notified of Huizar through a third party who cited reckless driving.

“He was called in as a driver having trouble maintaining the lane, driving into oncoming traffic,” Montgomery said.

A patrol officer conducted a driving-whileintoxicated investigation after pulling Huizar over. After officers realized the man was under the influence, Montgomery said they conducted a search of the vehicle where officers located the methamphetamine and psilocybin, a naturally occurring psychedelic compound found in certain mushrooms, and marijuana.

Along with a firstdegree charge for the manufacture/delivery of methamphetamine, Huizar faces several other charges. These include a second-degree charge for possession of a controlled substance, penalty group 2, greater than or equal to two grams and under 400 grams; a Class B misdemeanor charge for driving while intoxicated; and a Class A misdemeanor for possession of marijuana less than two ounces.
