Since 1979, the six-stripe rainbow flag has become synonymous with the rights of the homosexual community in America.
The flag was designed by artist Gilbert Baker at the request of San Francisco’s first gay elected city official. Although the rainbow flag has changed a number of times over the years, it has become synonymous with the LGBTQ+ movement.
