One-vehicle crash takes out Storm’s Drive-In marquee

A 62-year-old Kempnerarea resident sustained what authorities said were serious injuries in a onevehicle crash along the 200 block of North Key Avenue in the early-morning hours on Monday.

According to Lampasas Police Department Patrol Lt. Chuck Montgomery, the incident occurred at 5:07 a.m. The man operating a 2012 Ford F-150 was southbound on Key Avenue when, for reasons unknown, lost control of the vehicle and drove across the northbound lanes before crashing.

“He crashed into a light pole and flipped on his side and hit the Storm’s [Drivein] sign, causing damage to both sides,” Montgomery said.

The driver was transported by Hamilton EMS to the Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Temple for what officers deemed serious injuries. Montgomery was unable to say what caused the incident, but he noted intoxication was not deemed to be factor.

In a Facebook post made Monday morning after the incident, Storm’s Drive-In announced the sign suffered extensive damage, which is expected to be repaired soon.

“Luckily, he didn’t hit the patio or the building so everyone at Storm’s is fine,” the local fast-food eatery announced on social media.

Agencies on the scene included the Lampasas Police Department, Lampasas Fire Department and Hamilton EMS.
