A 51-year-old man from Belton was pronounced dead at the scene of a two-car crash on U.S. Highway 190 on Sunday morning.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the 51-year-old man, Malena Mick, was the driver of a 2010 Ford Edge that was stopped on the westbound shoulder of U.S. 190 outside of Kempner at 9:59 a.m.
A 2008 Ford Explorer, operated by a 65-yearold male from Copperas Cove, was traveling westbound and approached Mick’s vehicle from behind.
“For reasons unknown, Mick attempted to make a U-turn to head back eastbound in the path of the Ford Explorer,” the DPS report stated. “The Ford Explorer struck the Ford Edge on the driver’s side.”
Mick was pronounced deceased at the scene. A 13-year-old boy and a 13-year-old girl who were passengers in Mick’s vehicle were airlifted to McLane Children Hospital in Temple with serious bodily injuries.
The male driver of the Ford Explorer and a 65-year-old female passenger were transported via ambulance to AdventHealth Central Texas in Killeen.
