LHS employee placed on leave; investigation ongoing

A Lampasas High School employee is on administrative leave after a report was made Monday of “concerning communications,” district officials said.

Lampasas ISD Superintendent Dr. Chane Rascoe said a member of the teaching staff was put on paid administrative leave immediately following a report he received regarding “concerning communications” between a teacher and a student.

Lampasas Police Department was notified that day and initially was involved in the investigation.

“We contacted the police, but no criminal charges have been filed,” Rascoe said. “They have been involved since the beginning. They reviewed everything. There is no criminal investigation.”

Lampasas Police Chief Jody Cummings said that on Monday morning, “Lampasas High School administration briefed the School Resource Officer on information they’d received. The officer observed as administration conducted follow-up that morning. The officer met with the Lampasas County Attorney’s Office, discussed the information, and it was determined based on what was known that there was not a criminal matter.”

Lampasas police have since stepped back to allow LISD officials to conduct an internal investigation over the matter, Rascoe said.

“I did immediately submit a TEA report notifying them, as we are required to do,” the superintendent said.

While no criminal law appears to have been violated, Rascoe said the internal investigation is ongoing.

“This investigation could take awhile,” he said. “We take these matters seriously, and we are investigating them to make sure our kids are safe.”

The Dispatch Record has chosen to withhold the name of the accused employee unless criminal charges are filed.
