The report from the Aug. 9 Lampasas Cattle Auction follows. Cattle and calves: Total cattle 511, compared to 540 last sale and 795 at this time last year. Compared to last sale, feeder steers and heifers were steady. Slaughter cows were steady to $2 lower, and slaughter bulls were $1-$3 lower.

Donors reach new milestones at blood drive

The American Red Cross Community Blood Drive was held this week in Lampasas, and 67 units of blood were collected. “We thank each one of you who donated for sharing to help other people live,” local coordinator Wanda Lang said.

Battling heat and stereotypes

Every year, local business owner Christopher Dunlap donates a large amount of bottled water and sports drinks to the Lampasas Police Department to help the officers with their Spring Ho duties. Spring Ho, Lampasas’ annual summer festival, is a weeklong celebration with multiple events per day.

Blood drive begins Tuesday

The next American Red Cross Lampasas Community Blood Drive will begin Tuesday at the First Street Church of Christ fellowship hall, 201 W. First St. Drive hours are 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Blood drive hours Aug. 9 are 12:30-5:30 p.m.

A second home 5,000 miles away
