October is Hill Country Night Sky Month, and Lampasas County is a good place to celebrate the dark, starry skies. Lampasas County Friends of the Night Sky recognizes businesses that utilize night sky-friendly outdoor lighting and preserve the view of the night sky.

Cash prizes, belt buckles await at Go Texan BBQ Cook Off

Lampasas County Area Go Texan will host its fifth annual barbecue cook-off this weekend at the 580 Sports Complex. The cost is $200 per team for the three-meat competition that includes brisket, ribs and chicken. Judging for the event is sanctioned by the Lone Star Barbecue Society.

Wayne stays positive through cancer bout

Dale Wayne was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer on March 3, 2022. Despite being given only two to three months to live, Wayne is still here after 580-plus days. Through it all, Wayne said he has remained positive and kept his faith in God.

Boots & Blazers Ball set for Oct. 14

The Lampasas Association for the Arts will host its annual Boots & Blazers Ball on Oct. 14. This year’s featured artist is Bob Wills’ Texas Playboys. The event will be held from 5:30–10:30 p.m. in Campbell Park, and will feature entertainment, dancing, and a live and silent auction.

GFWC National Day of Service Proclamation signed by mayor

At last week’s Lampasas City Council meeting, Mayor Herb Pearce signed a proclamation drafted by the Lampasas Pierian Club and the ’36 Club, declaring Sept. 30, 2023 GFWC National Day of Service in the city. Fourteen clubwomen were present for the signing.

Get to know Lampasas County 4-H project leaders

More than 500,000 youths across Texas are involved in 4-H activities. The program is celebrating National 4-H Week Oct. 1-7. In 4-H, youth may participate in shooting sports, food science, healthy living, robotics, fashion and photography. The 4-H clover stands for head, heart, hands and health.

Rehearsals commence for Christmas Cantata

Lampasas Methodist Church will begin rehearsals for the 75th annual Christmas Cantata on Oct. 11 at 7:30 p.m. in the church’s sanctuary at 2 Alexander Lane. Participants are asked to enter through the old fellowship hall/choir room door.

Dutch, the wonder dog

Dutch is a little dog with sleek black hair, fluffy ears and about four cowlicks running in different directions down and across his back. Dutch's momma had had at least one litter before he and his brothers were born.
