Lometa Bank receives historic plaque commemorating 1915 shootout

Lometa’s Cadence Bank is now home to a new commemorative plaque provided by the Lampasas County Historical Commission. The plaque tells the events of a 1915 shootout at that location, which resulted in the death of J.J. Connell, famous for being a one-armed constable.

The assailant was F.W. Bader, who had been suspected of using a forged “chopper’s check” to pay workers at the local cedar yard.
