Although a few inches of rain have fallen throughout the county in recent months, new water restrictions may take effect because of the ongoing drought.

In a workshop session set for Monday evening, the Lampasas City Council will discuss action that may need to be taken in response to Central Texas Water Supply Corp.’s issuance of a Stage 2 drought warning.

Chili lunch

First United Methodist Church Men’s annual chili lunch will be Saturday at Wesley Fellowship Hall.

Serving will be from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Take-outs will be offered.

Tickets are $6 each for a bowl of chili, cornbread, crackers, a drink and dessert.

The public is invited to the fundraising event.

A four-hour workshop is set for adults who have been impacted by child abuse/neglect either personally or through a loved one.

The workshop is Saturday at the Aware Central Texas office, 1002 N. Main St. in Belton.

"Stitches in Time," the annual fundraiser for Keystone Square Museum, is March 2-3 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day at the Lampasas County Courthouse.

This year, the needle art and quilt show will focus on "Blocks from the Past." The emphasis will be on older blocks most recognized, such as "Grandmother's Flower Garden," the "Wedding Ring" and the "Friendship Quilt."

Keep librarians in our schools

Dr. Hoyer and our school board recently made the decision to cut 60 percent of our school librarians. I realize we are facing budget cuts in our schools, but I do not think our library program should have to receive such a large cut. Shouldn’t some other departments have to share some of these cuts?

Badger defense strong in victory

And right at the perfect time, with only three regular-season games remaining.

In Friday night’s 56-34 victory over Llano, the Lampasas defense came alive, as the Jackets struggled to score from the beginning of the game and had one eight-minute stretch during which they were unable to score from the floor.

Tennis fares well at Killeen Tournament

It was Lampasas coach Kenneth Peiser’s first time bringing the Badger varsity and junior varsity tennis teams to the same tournament.

The risk worked out well for Peiser, as he wanted to give both teams better competition, since the varsity is preparing for regionals in a month, and the coach expects 10 JV players to move up to varsity next season.

The coach knows his team won’t be able to sneak up on anybody necessarily, since the Badgers advanced to the state tournament last season. “I think they feel like their work has finally paid off,” Black said of his players.
