Diabetes classes slated

"Do Well Be Well with Diabetes" classes will be offered five consecutive Mondays, March 19 to April 16, from 5:30 to 8:15 p.m. at the Lampasas County Annex conference room.

Cost is $18 per person or $30 per couple. Register by March 12. Class size is limited to the first 20 registrants.

Methodist church offers free Friday movie night

"Courageous" will be shown to the public during a free movie night at Wesley Fellowship Hall of First United Methodist Church tonight at 6 p.m.

"Courageous" tells the story of four law officers who discover leading a family takes even more bravery than fighting crime.

Daycare will be provided for younger children.

Pizza is $1 per slice, and popcorn and drinks are $.50.

The City of Lampasas will host a continuing education unit class Feb. 24 from 8 a.m. to noon at the Lampasas Fire Department Training Room, 408 S. Main St.

Cost is $45 if prepaid or $55 at the door.

Orientation for the incoming 2012- 2013-2014 GFWC Texas district presidents was Jan. 18-19 at the Holiday Inn at Town Lake in Austin.

Crystal Hammett, a member of Lampasas' Pierian Club and 36 Club, is representing the GFWC Texas Capitol District for her incoming term of office.

It's a girl!

Rocky and Jenny Wolfe of Lampasas are the parents of a daughter, Roxy Jean, born Jan. 27, 2012, at 9:33 p.m. at St. David's Hospital in Georgetown.

At birth, Roxy weighed 7 pounds, 7 ounces and was 18.5 inches in length.

Tax Aide set each Tuesday

The Tax Aide program is offered at the Lampasas Senior Center each Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. through April 15.

Volunteers will prepare tax returns for middle- and low-income taxpayers with an emphasis on helping seniors ages 60 and older.

Church sets annual chili luncheon

First United Methodist Church Men will hold its annual chili luncheon Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Wesley Fellowship Hall.

Takeouts will be available. Tickets are $6 each, which includes chili, cornbread, crackers, drink and a dessert.

LMS yearbooks still on sale; ad sales continue through today

Lampasas Middle School yearbooks are still on sale and may be purchased during Prime Time in the computer lab for $30 each.

Eighth-grade ads are on sale through today. Cost is $10 each. They are being sold on a first-come. first-served basis during Prime Time in the computer lab.

Library has Valentine-themed events scheduled this month

Lampasas Public Library has two Facebook contests under way through Sunday: "How I Met My Valentine" and "Bitter and Brokenhearted."

The winner will receive a Valentine's prize pack of a dinner for two, flowers and a Valentine's cake for two.

Children's story time planned

The library will offer a special presentation Feb. 18 of "Where the Wild Things Are."

Teachers from Kline Whitis Elementary School will be dressed as characters from the children's book.

Kids of all ages are invited to see the popular children's story brought to life.

Admission is free. The show begins at 10 a.m., followed by a time for crafts.

Financial aid event slated

The Lampasas County Higher Education Center's first Financial Literacy Festival is Feb. 21 from 5 to 8 p.m. for those who plan to seek financial aid to attend college.

There will be guest speakers and bilingual presentations, children’s activities, and informational booths and workshops led by companies and organizations that offer financial services and advice.
