While some parts of the county are still recovering from the weekend’s flood, meteorologists said more storms may be possible beginning this afternoon.
The National Weather Service issued a hazardous weather outlook at 1:26 p.m. today, citing chances of severe thunderstorms, as well as a tornado watch at 1:35 p.m. The outlook is effective for Lampasas, Coryell, Hamilton, San Saba and surrounding counties.
The tornado watch is in effect until 9 p.m. tonight.
“There is a chance of thunderstorms this afternoon and evening, primarily near and south of the US-380 corridor. Some storms may be severe with very large hail, damaging winds, and perhaps a tornado or two. Locally heavy rain may also cause flooding in some areas,” officials said.
While the area may receive a short reprieve from rainfall on Friday and Saturday, storm chances will return late this weekend.
“Storm chances will return on Sunday and Monday. A brief lull in storms will occur on Tuesday, followed by additional storm chances Wednesday afternoon and evening,” NWS officials said.
